Have you experienced a situation where after restarting your windows server 2003 machine your sever hangs on a blank screen or just a mouse cursor with nothing else? This happens immediately after windows gets past the initial windows boot up logo. I run into this problem recently and tried everything from swapping hardware to windows repair with no success. Changed Raid cards memory etc but nothing. Run windows repair which starts out fine but hangs at exactly the same point.
I tried everything except reinstalling windows which was the last thing i wanted to or was ever going to do. After three days of no successi was left with but one option: to rebuild the server. But before i was to try that i just wanted to the guts of it. I installed windows 2003 server on a separate disk and installed all drivers including RAID drivers so i could see inside the disks.
I installed antivirus and updated it and did a full scan of the RAID. Found a number of viruses which were removed successfully. After that i tried to reboot and lo and behold windows could get past that point for the first time in 30 reboots. The repair which i had started earlier continued and completed successfully.
Its that simple but was had to imagine that such a thing would occur. Especially that i had good running antivirus on that server.

Common problem when you try to re-install XP on a recent Laptop. You start you installation but when you get to the point where you need to format the hard disc it cannot be seen by XP.
Solution:
Go to your BIOs change the Sata mode to the most primitive mode supported. Save to CMOS and restart the installation. You can revert your Sata Mode back once you have completed your installation. Some have tried the F6 key to try and install the driver but it never always works. This is the best way around the problem.

Trying to update you Mcafee VirusScan Enterprise ver 8.XX you get the following error:
“failed to initialize common updater subsystem. make sure the mcafee framework service is running. Mcafee common framework error fffff95b@2 ffffff95b@ 2″
I struggled with this one for while. Tried a lot of things i got from Google but nothing. The following virus and Trojans were detected on the computer:
PWS-WOW, W32/Yahlove, Generic!atr and W32/Autorun(Virus)
Well i found a solution that has worked every time.
This is how i did it.
1. Uninstall McAfee Antivirus program from your computer. You can use the Add Remove programs tool in the conrol Panel.
2. Navigate to the following folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\application data\McAfee
Delete the folder: Common Framework
3. Reinstall Mcafee Viruscan and and update you virus definitions.
Reinstalling without removing the common framework folder will not remove the problem.
Hope someone will find this helpful.
