If you have some sort of web presence you are probably thinking of how you can use you website to make some income. That is if you have not already done so. One of the first things you need to do is get traffic to your site and how much of it you get really depends mainly on the quality of your content and not so much the content itself. There is many other ways to bring traffic to your website but i will not focus on that right now instead i will touch on that in great detail in a later post. In this post i’m mostly going to concern myself with affilliate programs. For the sake of those that are new to this field. Affiliate marketing is a web based marketing practice in which a business pays or rewards you for each visitor or customer brought about by your efforts. You being an affiliate will be rewarded based on agreed terms such as percentage of the sale if your lead results in a sale. Some businesses also pay per lead meaning that you get rewarded for each customer or visitor you lead to their website even if they dont buy. In the begining you will hardly make anything off your efforts but persistance and content quality improvement will soon win you loyal visitors. As you get more traffic then you begin to see some results.
There are numerous affiliate or associate programs you can join. For most of them the only prerequisite is you need to have a website. Some are stringent when it come to quality and very strict and will not just accept you unless your website meets their minimum standard. Others are completely open and almost anyone can join. But of all of these i found Commision Junction to be the best in terms of options and products and you will find products to promote for any type of content. Commision Junction takes business very seriously and has drawn numerous advertisers ranging from internet gaming companies to Hotel chains and gift stores. It probably all you will need if you plan to market products on your website but be sure to make sales quick because commision junction will deactivate your account if you do not make any sales within a period of a few months.
Pay per Click programs work well for beginers and will give you a few cents right from the start. Google adsense is probabaly the most popular and by far most succeful pay per click program. Alternatives include Yahoo Internet Marketing, Microsoft’s Adcenter and others such as Bidvertiser. Google Adsense is the recomended way to go if you are a beginer. How much you make will depend on how may visitors you get and how well you are able to covert each of those visits to clicks. Optimizing your site for Adsense is another big topic which will also come in a later post but if you are really keen to do it now i recomend you buy Joel Comm’s book on Adsense. It the only book you will need to master Adsense and make the most out of it.
